About Vina Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva
Vina Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva is one of the world’s great traditional white wines and a bottle that completely rewrites expectations of aged white Rioja. Deep golden in colour, the wine is layered with preserved lemon, beeswax, toasted nuts, dried citrus peel and subtle savoury spice, all carried by remarkable freshness and precision. The texture is rich, silky and endlessly complex, yet the wine still feels alive and energetic thanks to its natural acidity and incredibly slow evolution in barrel and bottle. This is a white wine built for contemplation, where every glass reveals another layer of detail, texture and nuance.
Founded in 1877, Lopez de Heredia is one of the most historic and revered wineries in Rioja, with its famous Tondonia cellars built beside Haro’s original railway station during the great expansion of Rioja wine exports. The sandstone winery buildings and ancient oak barrels remain preserved much as they were over 150 years ago, with some of the oak still maintained and repaired rather than replaced, creating a style that is impossible to replicate elsewhere. The estate works with just four vineyards located within four kilometres of Haro, which is why the winery only produces four core labels, each deeply tied to place and history. Every grape is hand harvested using traditional comporta baskets, fermented with natural wild yeasts and handled with extraordinary patience, preserving a style of Rioja that feels increasingly rare in the modern wine world.
