Long dismissed as a bulk wine variety, old vine Carignan from the south of France and Spain is now recognised as one of the most exciting and terroir-expressive varieties you can find. High acidity, firm tannins and intense dark fruit make it a natural blending partner, but as a single varietal wine it delivers remarkable depth, spice and a rustic earthiness that is entirely its own.
