Portuguese Wines
Portugal is one of Europe's most exciting wine countries, home to the Douro Valley, the world's oldest legally recognised wine-producing area, legislated all the way back in 1756. Packed with indigenous grape varieties that the rest of the world is only just waking up to, Portugal has long flown under the radar thanks to hard-to-pronounce names like Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Alvarinho, but don't let that put you off. These are wines with genuine personality, outstanding value and a sense of place that is entirely their own, with the Douro, Dão and Vinho Verde all well worth exploring.
