About Quinta de Azevedo, Torre, Grande Escolha, (Albarino)
Torre Grande Escolha is an exceptional Albariño-led white wine from Vinho Verde in Portugal, and an excellent example of just how good this grape can be.
Predominantly Alvarinho (Portugal’s name for Albariño), with a little Loureiro blended in, this is dry, rich and beautifully textured. Ripe peach, apricot and fresh citrus are wrapped in a gorgeous round, luscious texture, while ageing in large French oak brings a lovely creaminess and subtle vanilla notes underneath the fresh fruit. Bright acidity keeps everything beautifully balanced, with a long, elegant finish.
Quinta de Azevedo is one of the most exciting projects in Vinho Verde, championing Portugal’s great indigenous white grapes and producing ambitious, site-driven wines that show just how serious this region can be. Torre is a brilliant example of the quality, complexity and pedigree that Albariño can achieve when it is given this level of attention.
