Sauternes
Sauternes is one of the world's greatest sweet wines and a genuine benchmark for dessert wine excellence. Produced in the southern Bordeaux appellation of the same name, Sauternes is made from Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle grapes affected by noble rot, a benevolent fungus that concentrates the sugars and flavours in the grape to extraordinary levels. The result is a wine of opulent richness, layered with honey, apricot, marmalade and vanilla, yet always balanced by a bright, refreshing acidity. Brilliant with blue cheese or simply on its own as a glass after dinner.
