This 100% Avesso from Vinho Verde, Portugal, is a bright, zesty gem. In the glass, it’s a gorgeous citrus-straw color, immediately pulling you in with vibrant aromas of white fruit and delicate floral notes. The first sip is all about balance—freshness, minerality, and acidity perfectly in harmony. It’s medium-bodied with a lovely texture that’s supported by juicy fruit, leading to a crisp, energetic finish that leaves you wanting more. Fermented in stainless steel and aged on fine lees for four months with batonnage, this wine has a depth that pairs beautifully with seafood dishes, light pastas, or semi-cured cheeses. The palate is bright, fresh, and creamy, with a silky texture and beautifully balanced acidity that leads to a long, mouth-watering finish. It’s exciting, delicious, and the kind of wine that makes you wonder why you don’t drink Albariño all the time. Terras Gauda is one of Galicia’s most respected producers, and while this is their entry-level wine, it punches well above its weight. A key reason for its consistency and quality is that the winery owns over two-thirds of the vineyards they source from—rare in a region where vineyard ownership is incredibly fragmented. This allows them to control every step of the process, ensuring that every vintage delivers the same lively, aromatic, and utterly delicious Albariño that fans have come to love.

Unlike traditional coastal Alvarinho, this wine brings a unique minerality and structure, thanks to six months on lees and a mix of schist, clay, and granite soils. The nose is bright and aromatic, bursting with lime zest, white peach, and a hint of fresh mint, while the palate is precise, textured, and layered with citrus, stone fruit, and a subtle saline edge. The natural vibrancy and crisp acidity make it an exciting, food-friendly white with a long, mouth-watering finish. Crafted by Tiago Sampaio of Folias de Baco, Uivo Alvarinho is sourced from high-altitude vineyards (550-700m) in the Cima Corgo region, where cooler temperatures slow ripening, enhance complexity, and preserve freshness. The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, is unfined, unfiltered, and produced with minimal sulphur, staying true to organic and low-intervention winemaking principles. With a focus on terroir-driven wines, Tiago is redefining Douro Valley white wines, proving that Alvarinho can thrive beyond its traditional coastal origins.
