About San Polo, Brunello di Montalcino, Italy
Incredibly ripe and rich, the San Polo Brunello di Montalcino has remarkable depth, concentration and length of flavour. Ripe black cherry and dark plum fruit meet gorgeous, polished tannins, layers of spice and a lovely richness through the palate. There is loads of instant gratification here, but underneath all that generous fruit is the structure and complexity you expect from great Brunello.
San Polo is an acclaimed Montalcino estate producing Brunello from 100% Sangiovese, known locally as Sangiovese Grosso. The 2020 vintage produced beautifully ripe, expressive wines, and San Polo's high-altitude vineyards in the south-east of Montalcino help balance that richness with freshness and definition. The wine is matured in large oak casks, allowing the Sangiovese fruit and character of the vineyard to remain centre stage rather than being dominated by oak. A seriously impressive 2020 Brunello di Montalcino, combining Tuscan warmth and generosity with elegance, freshness and exceptional length.
