About Tenuta San Guido, Guidalberto 2023
Guidalberto 2023 is a beautifully poised Bolgheri red wine, led by vibrant red cherry, cassis and wild bramble fruit with layers of Mediterranean herbs, cedar and a gentle hint of dark chocolate. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a supple, velvety texture, fresh acidity and finely detailed tannins that give both structure and lift. There is a lovely balance between ripe fruit and savoury depth, finishing long, polished and already incredibly enjoyable while still promising further development.
Produced by Tenuta San Guido in Bolgheri, Guidalberto is a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend, with the 2023 vintage composed of 55 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 45 percent Merlot, aged for around 12 months in barrel. It sits alongside its more famous sibling Sassicaia, which is typically a Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blend aged for almost two years in French oak, yet Guidalberto stands confidently as its own wine with a distinct personality and earlier drinking style. Originally created to explore Merlot and offer a more approachable expression, it has evolved into one of Tuscany’s most compelling Bordeaux-style reds. With a new bespoke winery underway and reduced future allocations, Guidalberto is stepping firmly out of Sassicaia’s shadow, building its own reputation as a benchmark Bolgheri wine with real character and value.
