The winemakers have been making wine in Puglia for over twenty years, and their philosophy is to let the fruit shine with minimal technical intervention. It is a cracker, bursting with the intense aromas of forest fruits like blueberries, black cherry, and blackberries. There’s a seductive touch of cocoa and chocolate in the background, giving it that extra layer of richness. On the palate, it’s silky smooth and beautifully balanced, showing off its ripe fruit with elegance and finesse. Made from a classic Douro blend, this wine perfectly captures the bold and robust nature of the region. Portuguese wines are some of the best value reds on the market and this field blend from Alentejo is now exception. Dark fruit like blackberries and blackcurrants are layered with spice and a gorgeous texture. This is a bombshell wine, a real cracker! One of the main grapes in the blend here is Alicante Bouschet, a very unique grape in the wine world as the pulp is dark in colour. It adds depth and perfume to this outstanding wine. 'Trinca Bolotas' meaning acorn muncher is a nod to the acorn munching Iberian pigs that are native to the area. Alentejo produces superb red wines made from the regions native grape varieties, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez and Touriga Nacional.

An Irish Times Wine of the Week Made from low-yielding Merlot with the balance comprising of Bordeaux's two other great grapes, Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc, Turcaud Rouge is deliciously fruity with cherry and spices and a soft velvety medium bodied mouthfeel. Think red berry fruit, spices and herbs. An absolutely superb value for money red from France. And that is saying something! Located 25 km south of Saint-Emilion in Merlot country,  Chateau Turcaud is an immaculate 45-ha vineyard, planted on gravely slopes, the house, now completely renovated, adjoins the meticulously maintained and well-equipped winery in the back.

Vibrant red in colour, with aromas of red and black cherries, plums and black olives. This medium bodied red has a silky texture, fine tannins and a fresh acidity. Perfect with grilled lamb cutlets, or roast pork loin. A gorgeous wine produced by icons of the Irish wine industry in France; Simon Tyrrell and Gerard Maguire are joined by Charles Derain for this exciting wine project in the Cotes du Rhone. The vineyards are all either organic or in the process of conversion with some biodynamic practices included. The vineyards have been carefully selected on cooler elevated sites and harvesting is all done by hand and carried out a least a week earlier than the surrounding estates resulting in fresh, juicy and mouth-watering wines. Fermented using natural yeasts in cement tanks with a blend of 55% Grenache and 45% Syrah. Only around 9,000 bottles are made annually.

A new one for us to add to the website and its a great value for money red from Southern Italy. This is a great alternative to those who are partial to a glass of Malbec. Il Faggio derives from the Italian for Beech Trees, which are as much a symbol of Abruzzo, as the Montepulciano grape itself. This wine is produced by Matt Thomson who is one of New Zealand's superstar winemakers. For 30 years he has spent half the year in Italy consulting on his Italian wine projects, and the other half at home in new Zealand working on his wine projects there.
