About Chateau Langoa Barton 2009, Saint-Julien, Bordeaux
Chateau Langoa Barton 2009, Saint-Julien, Bordeaux
Tasted by Michelle in October 2026, Chateau Langoa Barton 2009 has a serious wow factor: outrageously intense, rich, round and juicy, with layers of blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry. At 17 years old, it is still wonderfully fresh, with cedar, tobacco and subtle dried herbs adding complexity to the generous fruit and fine tannins. The length is incredible, with flavour that keeps unfolding, making this Saint-Julien Bordeaux a very special bottle for the dinner table, particularly alongside roast lamb or beef.
Chateau Langoa Barton has been owned by the Irish-rooted Barton family since 1821 and was awarded Third Growth status in Bordeaux's 1855 classification. Its gravel vineyards in Saint-Julien, on Bordeaux's Left Bank, produce wines celebrated for their balance of structure, freshness and finesse. The 2009 vintage blends 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, with ageing in French oak adding depth and complexity. Combining the generous fruit of a warm vintage with classic Bordeaux elegance, this is a wine with both immediate appeal and the structure for further ageing.
