A stunning Champagne that I give 10/10 for value for money and flavour. Elegant, rich and creamy, this is a Champagne to write home about. A true Champenois, co-owner and winemaker Thierry Gobillard often mentions that his house is situated a few metres away from Dom Pérignon’s grave and that one of his first birthday present was a pair of “sécateurs”. Maison JM Gobillard is a small family-owned and run property with about 25 hectares of mainly 1er Cru vineyards in Hautvillers. They also buy grapes from some 75 hectares of vines through multiyear agreements with growers selected for their expertise and quality.

Fermented in thermoregulated stainless steel vats and finished on its lees results in a Sancerre rich and refined Sancerre. Sancerre is located on the left bank of the Loire valley renowned for its fresh crisp whites. In order to call your white wine Sancerre, the regulation stipulate that the grapes must be exclusively Sauvignon Blanc.

A robust Rioja, with rich red fruit and a big structure. Not for the faint-hearted, its a big glass of wine, but a very elegant one at that. Remelluri is the family estate of Telmo Rodriguez, a man who is considered one of the best wine makers in Spain. Having worked in Bordeaux, Rhone and Provence, he returned to Spain to his beloved Remelluri. Lindes de Remelluri means “the borders of Remelluri.” This wine is made from grapes grown by local farmers in the town of San Sonsierra, which are close to the main Remelluri estate. Telmo wanted to honour the old family contracts which had been in place for so long and created a separate label for them.

Unoaked and irresistible. Gerard and Helene Tremblay are the 5th generation to make wine at the estate and have over 30 hectares including Premier Cru and Grand Cru. This lovely dark red/purple Margaux entices with an intense nose of dark berries, vanilla hints and cassis. The soft, complex palate displays elegant ripeness with delicate fruit and smoke notes, complemented by spices that stretch towards a firm yet elegant finish. This second wine of Château Labégorce emerged from an interesting history, as the Labégorce properties were once combined before the French Revolution, then split for centuries until Hubert Perrodo (founder of Perenco oil) began reuniting them from 1989 onwards. Following his death in 2006, his daughter Nathalie continued his vision, merging the estates into a single 55-hectare property with Château Labégorce as the grand vin and Zédé de Labégorce as its second wine.
