About Wines of the Year 2025 | Red Box
Our annual love letter to the red wines that blew our minds! These are the standout reds of 2025, from hidden gems to instant classics that had everyone asking for more.
First up, the Quinta dos Carvalhais Dao Red from Portugal, a really silky and beautifully composed red with cranberry, cassis, dark cherry and a gentle hint of spice. Polished tannins, quiet oak and a long elegant finish make this a benchmark Portuguese red and exceptional value. The Dika Frankovka from Croatia is our first Croatian red and what a discovery it is. Medium to full bodied with berries, cherries and blackberries, it balances fruit and tannin beautifully and is an absolute treat with a barbecue or spicy pasta dish. The Pietro Zardini Valpolicella is a serious, vibrant and generous Valpolicella Classico with dried fruits, a touch of spice and lovely rustic charm. Smooth, full bodied and made the old fashioned way by a family working these soils since the 1600s.
The Tenuta Mazzolino Terrazze Pinot Nero from Oltrepo Pavese is an elegant, perfumed Pinot Noir with red cherries, wild strawberries, violets and a silky yet structured palate. A class act from one of Italy's most exciting hidden gem regions. The Pardas Negre Franc from Penedes is full bodied, rich, spicy and dry with ripe red fruit, juicy black fruit and 13 months in oak adding vanilla and coffee undertones. Organic, vegan friendly and seriously impressive. Rounding things out, the Domaine Guy Farge Bouquet de Syrah from the Rhone is one of the best value Rhone reds we have tried in years. Plums, blueberries, spice and gentle strawberry notes with a silky mouthfeel and a finish that will have you reaching for another glass.
