An unusual blend for a Spanish red; Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Monastrell, it’s a full-on glass of wine. Muscular, with a big weighty mouthfeel and ripe sweet ripe fruit, with spice and herbaceous undertones. Although it’s a biggy, the refreshing acidity tones it down a bit. Crying out for meat, Rafael Cambra’s Dos is a force to be reckoned with. With a philosophy of minimal intervention and Rafael Cambra focuses on old Monastrell vines along with some French varieties.

A medium-full bodied red wine that is reminiscent of Premium Australian Shiraz. It has those rich and spicy red fruit flavours like a raspberry tart. Despite the robust nature of the wine, it is very refreshing and has a silky, velvety mouthfeel. This is definitely a wine for those who love Australian Shiraz for its big, bold flavours. This is instant gratification in a glass. Priorat is a mecca for those who love big red wines. The rugged landscape and intense heat produces old vine Garnacha worthy of its price tag.  The owner here, Alfredo Arribas, is one of the rising stars of the region, having spent the start of his working life as an architect. El Recio is an opulent and elegant wine made from 100% Tempranillo from very old vines. It spends 14 months in new oak which creates a robust wine with dark red fruits, spice,herbs and a lovely silky mouthfeel. This is our favourite of the collection. Its fancy and very good value for money. Its a must have people who like full bodied reds. El Recio is one of our dessert island wines and we couldn't recommend it any more highly.  

Although a Spanish wine, the grapes are predominantly classic French, with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon making up most of the blend. This wine is absolutely divine: full bodied, rich, spicy and dry, with ripe red fruit and juicy black fruit. It also spends 13 months in oak giving it that smooth mouth feel with vanilla and coffee undertones. This style combines the irresistible flavours of Australian reds with the structure of Northern Europe. Penedes is located near Barcelona and historically has been a place for high quality Cava.
